The Swainbost machair is just one of several local protected machair areas which has a beautiful beach that is worth visiting in North Lewis.

Coming alive in the spring with machair flowers, this is a great spot to watch the sunset over the Atlantic.

Machair is one of the rarest habitats in Europe which you find only on exposed western coasts of Scotland and Ireland. Please do your part to protect this unique, fragile habitat and do not park or set fires on the machair.
